Crater Lake

Crater Lake is considered one of the cleanest and purest bodies of water in the world. It is the deepest body of water in the United States. I have never seen water so blue.

This lake was formed 7700 years ago when a volcano collapsed. There is a smaller cone/island created in the lake by later lava eruptions.

My Dad and I hiked this trail:

Garfield Peak
Time:  2 to 3 hours
Length:  1.7 miles one way
Elevation: 7,050 to 8,060 feet
Difficulty: Difficult
Features: Panoramic views. May be closed
until mid-July due to snow.

My Dad looking out over the lake from over 8,000` up.

This is a view of the peak, the trail was officially closed due to snow but we unofficially continued to the top.

Looking back down at the trail and the lake.

Looking in the Caldera of Wizard Island cone.

Reminiscent of the mediterranean.
